Earlier that morning, around 11:35 a.m. Eastern Time, an unidentified suspect shot a Kentucky State Police trooper near Blue Grass Airport on Terminal Drive. After this initial attack, the gunman drove away and traveled approximately 17 miles to the church, where he resumed firing. Christina Combs was among those struck by gunfire during this second shooting.
In addition to the fatal injuries sustained by the women, two men were wounded in the church incident. One man’s condition was described as critical, while the other was reported to be in stable condition. The trooper injured in the airport shooting was transported to a hospital and is also said to be in stable health.
Following the church shooting, law enforcement teams from the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police apprehended the suspect. During the confrontation, the individual was killed, though the specifics of his demise have not been officially disclosed.
