Fatal Brooklyn shooting death of Jahshyim Whitfield
A man in his late twenties has died following a shooting incident in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. The fatal shooting occurred outside the Lafayette Gardens public housing complex on Dekalb and Kent Avenues shortly before 9:30 PM on Saturday.
According to family members, Jahshyim Whitfield was acting as a responsible parent when the tragedy unfolded. He had just delivered his nine-year-old daughter for a hair appointment when he was shot. The family reported that he was waiting for his daughter’s stylist session to conclude when the violence erupted.
The victim’s aunt provided details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. She stated that Whitfield had completed dropping off his daughter and was waiting for the hair salon to finish her appointment. The aunt described this period as uneventful, noting that her nephew was simply waiting for his daughter when the fatal incident occurred.
In addition to the nine-year-old girl, Whitfield also had a seven-year-old daughter. Family members described him as a deeply loving father and devoted individual. His grandmother, Evelyn, recalled how actively involved she was in raising him and assisting with his education. She expressed that he affectionately called her “Mom” rather than grandmother.
Aunt and family also shared information about his personal interests. Whitfield was known for his passion for music and his eclectic taste. He enjoyed listening to various genres, often switching between contemporary sounds and classic artists. His musical preferences spanned from modern hip-hop acts to legendary bands like The Isley Brothers.
Whitfield reached the age of 27 just last month. His grandmother shared memories of the care she provided for him, including academic support. She expressed profound sorrow over his loss and the suddenness of the tragedy that claimed her “son.”
