Fatal Cerro Gordo County car crash death of Joseph T. Costello
A devastating collision at the junction of Highway 65 and 330th Street resulted in the death of 85-year-old Joseph T. Costello from Plymouth on Saturday morning. According to an Iowa state Patrol statement, shortly before 9:30 a.m., Mr. Costello was driving a 2016 Lincoln MKS eastbound along 330th Street when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2000 Ford Expedition proceeding southbound. The collision proved fatal, even though Mr. Costello was secured by a seatbelt.
The identity of the deceased man has been confirmed as Joseph T. Costello. His 83-year-old wife, Carol J. Costello, was injured during the incident and was taken by the Mason City Fire Department to MercyOne.
As determined by the patrol report, the operator of the 2000 Ford Expedition was 34-year-old Valinda M. Imus from Northwood, Iowa. Ms. Imus also suffered injuries and was transported to MercyOne alongside her passenger, Deandre D. Harvey, a 30-year-old from Fort Dodge, Iowa.
This serious traffic incident is currently being investigated with the aid of officials from the Cerro Gordo and Worth County Sheriff’s Offices, members of the Manly Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, and the Mason City Fire Department.
