Rene Nieves Dies in Fatal Corona Altercation; Riverside County Authorities Investigating
Fatal Corona Altercation Death of Rene Nieves
Riverside County law enforcement is examining the death of a 40-year-old man following a physical confrontation that occurred outside a nearby business in the Glen Ivy area, a region officially designated as unincorporated within Corona. This unfortunate event unfolded during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Corona incident began when deputies from the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to Pulsar Court, specifically the 9000 block, around 1:34 a.m. on the 13th of July. Their arrival was to a scene where an off-duty emergency medical technician and firefighter were already providing aid to a man who had become unresponsive.
Identified as Rene Nieves, who was reported to live in Corona, the man received emergency treatment before being pronounced deceased at the scene. This unfortunate outcome was confirmed by Sergeant Mike Kelleher, the individual overseeing the case for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident led authorities to request assistance from the department’s specialized Central Homicide Unit, which took over the investigation. This unit identified the other person present at the time of the altercation and interviewed them. That individual was taken to the station but released after cooperating with investigators, and no one has been arrested in connection with the death.
It was noted that the case will be formally reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office at a future time. Officials have stated there is no current danger to the public and they do not believe other suspects are involved. The investigation continues, and no further details have been released by authorities.
Anyone who may possess information relevant to this case is being asked to contact Investigator Newby of the Central Homicide Unit or Investigator Mendoza at the Lake Mathews Station. Their contact numbers are (951) 955-2777 and (951) 272-5600, respectively.
