Fatal Opelika stabbing death of Tempest Vanshay Reese.
A female suspect, charged with murder stemming from a fatal stabbing that occurred on Saturday, has been taken into custody, according to the Opelika Police Department.
This individual, identified as Tempest Vanshay Reese, aged 35, presented herself at the police facility late on Sunday. She was subsequently charged with the offense of murder and moved to the Lee County Justice Center.
The Lee County Coroner, Daniel Sexton, officially identified the person who lost their life on Sunday as Janiah Thomas, a 22-year-old resident of Opelika.
Preliminary investigations were initiated around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday when Opelika law enforcement answered a call at the 600 Block of Comanchee Drive. Their arrival at the scene revealed Thomas inside a vehicle that had been involved in an accident and confirmed that she had sustained serious injuries from being pierced by a blade.
Thomas was airlifted to East Alabama Medical Center for emergency treatment. Regrettably, she did not survive and passed away due to the severity of her wounds.
Reese is considered a prime suspect in this case, although the authorities have not yet disclosed any details regarding the possible reasons or motives for the attack.
