Memphis police have announced charges against Tajee Turnage following the death of Timothy Echols. Officials state a fatal shooting occurred in the city over the weekend.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find Echols near railway tracks with serious gunshot injuries. Turnage is currently in custody and faces first-degree murder charges.
He was taken to a nearby medical facility but later passed away. Turnage was present at the location when officers arrived, subsequently agreeing to speak with law enforcement.
Investigators report that Turnage received a FaceTime call from his roommate while Echols was reportedly assaulting her. According to statements, Turnage claims he retrieved a weapon from his bedroom and confronted Echols. The suspect stated he fired multiple shots at Echols after arriving at the apartment building.
