A 25-year-old man, identified as DaJon Ryans, died following gunshot wounds sustained in Ypsilanti, authorities confirmed today. Police stated the fatal shooting occurred on Friday, July 11th, near the intersection of Ecorse Road and Towner Street.
Ryans, born and raised in the West Willow community, is the father of four children, his sister Paris Knight shared. Described by a GoFundMe supporter as a “loving, wild child” deeply devoted to his family, his death has left his children without a parent and his loved ones in profound sorrow. A fundraising page expressed the dramatic impact of his passing.
A 27-year-old resident of Washtenaw County faces charges in connection with this homicide investigation. The incident began when police were dispatched to Trinity Health around 7:45 p.m. on the day of the shooting after receiving notification about a gunshot wound patient.
Preliminary findings indicate the shooting likely happened near Ecorse Road and Towner Street. Investigators are also examining an incident at a nearby McDonald’s restaurant located at 16 Ecorse Road, which is less than a thousand feet from where Ryans was shot. No further details were provided regarding the events at the fast-food restaurant.
