Fatal Robinsonville shooting death of Markell Braxton
The suspect connected to a Friday shooting, which resulted in one death and two injuries, including a six-year-old child, has now been found deceased. According to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service discovered a body on Monday within a wooded area behind residences on Soleil Drive in Robinsonville, a location near the residence where Nykeria Jude, a 30-year-old woman, and a six-year-old girl were shot on Friday.
Jude succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the shooting incident. The child, whose relationship to Jude has not been disclosed, and the man were transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and were airlifted for further medical treatment.
Markell Braxton, a 41-year-old resident of Robinsonville, was identified as the suspect in this investigation. The Sheriff’s Office believes the remains found are those of Braxton, based on the body’s location near the home where the fatal shooting occurred and additional evidence gathered during the ongoing probe.
The body will be sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson for official identification. At this time, the cause and manner of death have not been determined.
