The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed this morning that a deadly intersection crash claimed two lives in Leon County, Texas, occurring Wednesday at daybreak. The fatality was reported by the DPS to local news channel KBTX shortly after the incident began its investigation.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing probe indicate that a large Peterbilt truck, dating back to the year 1999, was traveling along FM39 in a northward direction when it attempted to turn onto CR344. This maneuver resulted in a collision with a smaller vehicle, a 2025 model Hyundai Santa Fe, which was also proceeding northbound on FM300. According to the information gathered, the smaller car was struck and driven underneath the larger truck.
The occupants of the Hyundai, Matthew Sovick, who was 44 years old, and Christopher Gorman, who was 49, both residents of Bryan, were pronounced deceased at the location where the accident occurred. The Texas Department of Public Safety has indicated that the circumstances surrounding this fatal event are currently under thorough examination.
