Kentucky law enforcement activated an IAN Alert on Tuesday following the report of a missing 5-year-old child, and officers later confirmed the child had been located deceased.

According to Kentucky State Police records, Silas departed his residence in the Cub Run area of Hart County at around 8:00 a.m. This location is situated near the Mammoth Cave region.

Silas’s autism prompted the issuance of a specialized IAN Alert at approximately 9:30 a.m. Subsequently, authorities announced that the boy was discovered dead by 10:15 a.m.

A spokesperson for the Kentucky State Police expressed condolences, stating that the agency mourns alongside the family and community members.

Tuesday marks the first anniversary of the IAN Alert system’s implementation in Kentucky, which operates similarly to the Amber Alert framework. The alert network was established in memory of Ian Sousis, a 9-year-old boy with autism who went missing and tragically drowned in the Ohio River in 2022 after running away from a placement facility.
