Law enforcement officers began pursuing a speeding vehicle in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Iowa State Patrol reported that their attempt to stop a 2015 Ford Focus resulted in a high-speed chase through the city of Clear Lake, as detailed in a news report from North Iowa Today.
According to an official accident report obtained by state patrol investigators, the driver lost control during the pursuit. The vehicle subsequently collided with a tree, then crashed into an uninhabited residence and two legally parked automobiles near the busy intersection of 4th Avenue South and South Shore Drive. The Iowa State Patrol confirmed that the driver did not survive the injuries sustained in the collision, and emergency services reported no other individuals were involved in the incident.
The Iowa State Patrol formally identified the driver later on Tuesday, revealing that the deceased was 22-year-old Zachary Hill, who was originally from Forest City.
