According to authorities, a man is being sought for murder after a fatal shooting incident occurred outside a downtown business area over the weekend. Police reports indicate the fatal shooting happened early on Sunday morning during an altercation between the victim and another individual at a nightclub located on Birnie Street.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the shooting took place in a nearby parking lot opposite an event hall that was hosting activities for the Peach Festival. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased as 46-year-old Joshua Wood.

A spokesperson for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release that Wood arrived at Cherokee Medical Center in Gaffney at 1:20 a.m. following the incident, presenting with multiple gunshot injuries. Medical staff provided initial treatment before transporting him via ambulance to Spartanburg Medical Center. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries during a surgical procedure at 4:13 a.m.

On Wednesday, the Gaffney police secured arrest warrants for 35-year-old Anthony Lee Jefferies Jr. In connection with these charges, Jefferies faces allegations of murder and possessing a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Law enforcement officials have released information regarding Jefferies and are asking the public for any potential information about his current location.
