Fatal Minneapolis shooting death of Lafayette Anthony Collaso
Minneapolis authorities are currently examining the incident after a man was killed by gunfire Tuesday within the Elliot Park neighborhood. Responding around 6:30 p.m. to the 11th Avenue South area in the 1500 block, officers discovered a man in his late twenties injured by a gunshot wound while on a residence’s porch. Emergency medical services were present, but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office records confirm the man was identified as 30-year-old Lafayette Anthony Collaso and that his death was caused by a chest gunshot wound.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fatal shooting stemmed from an argument occurring on the sidewalk, which reportedly intensified leading to the use of firearms. Sources indicate the individual responsible for the shooting knew the deceased. Law enforcement officials noted the shooter departed the location prior to the arrival of police units. Chief Brian O’Hara has directed personnel to review surveillance footage from nearby cameras as part of the ongoing inquiry. O’Hara emphasized in an official statement the department is actively seeking any information available regarding the shooter and urged members of the public to come forward regardless of the perceived significance of their knowledge.
