Orange County authorities have confirmed the identities of three fatalities resulting from a severe motor vehicle collision that started as an official pursuit on Wednesday. The Orange County Coroner identified the three deceased young males as 22-year-old Brandon Antonio Ayala Herrera from Huntington Park, 20-year-old Caleb Ezequiel Mendoza from Maywood, and 27-year-old Luis Alejandro Mendez-Carbajal from Panorama City.
According to law enforcement reports, two other individuals inside the vehicle involved in the incident sustained critical injuries but are expected to recover. The Anaheim Police Department initiated the chase after the suspects allegedly committed a vehicle theft early Wednesday morning.
Initial reports indicate the fatal crash happened on the northbound section of the 5 Freeway close to Brookhurst Street at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The pursuit led to a high-speed chase that ended with the suspect vehicle crashing on its roof after departing the freeway. Authorities found the crashed automobile nearby and stated the collision resulted in significant traffic disruption for several hours. The California Highway Patrol is currently examining the incident.
