Fatal Houston drive-by shooting death of Destini Butler

A young woman has been identified as the victim in a drive-by shooting that occurred near Bugs Bar in southeast Houston. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Science confirmed that the deceased is Destini Butler, a 21-year-old. This incident resulted in multiple casualties, with two people losing their lives and fifteen others sustaining injuries. The other fatality was later identified as Paul “Junebug” Stevenson, a prominent Houston-area barber who also owned the bar where the violence took place.

The fatal gun attack took place on Sunday night, approximately eleven minutes past eleven in the evening, in the 6500 block of Dixie Drive. Law enforcement reported that a group of individuals was gathered outside Bugs Bar when the assailant, believed to be inside an automobile, opened fire. Paramedics and hospital staff treated seventeen injured individuals, with one person succumbing to their injuries at the crime scene and another passing away shortly after receiving medical attention. Preliminary investigations suggest a black sedan might have been involved in the attack.

Investigators are still piecing together the events leading up to this deadly assault. Questions remain about the shooter’s identity and whether multiple shooters participated in the incident, as authorities work to solve this case and bring those responsible to justice.
