Fatal King County shooting death of Gary Lee Winston

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, the two people who lost their lives in a fatal shooting at a residential building on July 14, 2025, have been identified as Gary Lee Winston, aged 34, and Migna Elizabeth Kennebrew, 46 — both individuals who resided in Kent.

Official documents indicate that Winston passed away due to several gunshot injuries, while Kennebrew’s death resulted from a firearm wound to the neck.

Kent law enforcement was alerted around 8:37 p.m. on July 14, 2025, after receiving notifications of a dispute and gunfire at a complex located in the 22400 block of Benson Road SE in Kent. Observers discovered a man outdoors and a woman indoors, and both were confirmed deceased at the scene.

On Wednesday, July 16, a 51-year-old resident of Kent with a long-standing record of criminal activity was apprehended in the Seattle vicinity, with support from the Snohomish County U.S. Marshals Task Force. He was taken into custody at the King County Jail for charges unrelated to this matter.

Investigators from Kent Police are set to present the homicide case to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for potential legal review.

In an official announcement, Kent Police stated that informants described hearing an altercation, followed by shots being fired, before the two victims were found.

No further individuals are known to be connected to the incident, and officials do not consider there to be a larger public safety concern.

The inquiry continues, with detectives still analyzing evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses. The Medical Examiner’s examination concludes that the shooting took place at a dwelling and that both fatalities are homicides.
