Fatal St. Louis County shooting death of Adam Clinton Wolf
Authorities have identified the man killed during a violent confrontation with deputies in St. Louis County as 57-year-old Adam Clinton Wolf of Normanna Township.
According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the incident unfolded Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m. when law enforcement responded to reports of multiple fires on the 6200 block of Heritage Road in Normanna Township. Wolf had allegedly ignited his own home and two neighboring properties while armed and riding a lawnmower.
A responding firefighter managed to extinguish the fires at the neighboring residences but reported hearing gunfire, believing he was being targeted. A Duluth Township police officer also came under fire upon arriving at the scene.
Deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched and began searching for the suspect. Upon locating Wolf, a firefight broke out after he opened fire on them. Wolf was shot during the exchange and pronounced dead at the scene.
The BCA said crime scene investigators recovered a weapon resembling a shotgun, spent shells, and improvised firearm devices near the roadway.
The deputies involved in the shooting have been identified as Sgt. Zachary Peterson, Deputy Charles Bennett, Deputy Matt Miranda, Deputy Forest Lunemann, and Deputy Michael Pikul. Their law enforcement experience ranges from three to ten years. All five have been placed on critical incident leave per department protocol.
