Fatal Bloomington shooting death of Darius Floyd

A 35-year-old man was fatally shot in Bloomington late Thursday night, and police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the killing.

Authorities were dispatched to the 1700 block of Illinois Street, near Sunnyside Park on the west side of Bloomington, shortly after 11:30 p.m. They discovered Darius Floyd suffering from a gunshot wound. Floyd was transported to Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, where he was later pronounced dead at 2:14 p.m.

McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder confirmed the identity of the deceased as Darius Floyd. Preliminary autopsy findings determined the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound to the head. Toxicology results are still pending.

The following day, around midday Friday, Bloomington Police carried out a search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of West Wood Street. Officers from multiple units, including the SWAT team, Criminal Investigations Division, Crisis Negotiation Unit, and Street Crimes Unit, participated in the operation.

During the search, authorities arrested a 17-year-old Bloomington male without any resistance and recovered two firearms. Due to his age, his identity has not been made public.

Police are pursuing several charges against the teen, including four counts of first-degree murder, as well as charges for unlawful use and possession of firearms, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a stolen firearm.

The suspect is currently being held at the McLean County Juvenile Detention Facility.
