Jaylen Reed Death in Car Crash While Fleeing Tuscaloosa Police
Fatal Tuscaloosa Car Crash death of Jaylen Reed
An individual from Aliceville has died following a vehicle collision, authorities reported Thursday evening. The incident occurred after the man reportedly eluded Tuscaloosa law enforcement officers.
A Tuscaloosa law enforcement unit attempted to stop a motor vehicle for several traffic infractions on Cousette Street around 7 p.m. The driver then sped away, crossing multiple intersections before colliding with a ditch and culvert near a building products facility. Only the driver was present in the car at the time.
Emergency medical services personnel attended to the driver, who was described as suffering severe injuries and lacking responsiveness. Despite efforts at the scene, the driver was transported to a regional medical center where his condition later proved fatal.
The incident resulted in no other vehicles being involved or damaged. Nonetheless, it stems from a Tuscaloosa Police Department traffic stop and is being examined by the Violent Crimes Unit, which includes personnel from outside the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
Multiple witnesses and video sources have been secured to reconstruct the sequence of events, which indicates the fatality occurred shortly after police activated their emergency lights.
Further details regarding active warrants for the deceased may be forthcoming from law enforcement.
