According to police reports released on Friday, 28-year-old Kashif Jamal Bentley-Jean was pronounced dead following an apparent gunshot wound sustained outside Yorkdale Mall.

Police received notification of a possible weapons situation around 6:13 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Highway 401 and Dufferin Street, which is adjacent to the mall’s parking area.

Upon arrival, responding officers discovered Bentley-Jean shot. Emergency medical services were dispatched but were unable to revive the victim at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest the individual responsible for the firearm discharge departed the vicinity before law enforcement intervention. Detective Sajeev Nair, addressing reporters during Thursday’s press conference, stated investigators do not consider this an isolated incident.
