Fatal shooting death of Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez and Liev Canals

Miami-Dade authorities identified the two victims killed in what appeared to be a murder-suicide incident this week. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 29-year-old Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez and 48-year-old Liev Canals were the individuals killed in the incident near Sweetwater and a subsequent crash near Tamiami on Friday.

Around 10:30 a.m., the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported receiving information about a shooting incident outside a residence located at 1075 NW 127th Place. Sheriff’s deputies discovered a woman, later identified as Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez, deceased in her driveway.

Shortly thereafter, Sweetwater Police were dispatched to the location of Southwest 107th Avenue and 3rd Street in connection with a reported crash. Upon their arrival, law enforcement found a man seated in the driver’s seat of a black sport utility vehicle, the victim exhibiting what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man, later identified as Liev Canals, was transported to a nearby medical facility but did not survive his injuries.

As homicide detectives from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Office began their investigation into the incident, it was determined that Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez and Liev Canals were romantically involved as a couple.

According to reports from neighbors shared with CBS News Miami, an individual armed with a handgun approached the residence and shot the woman, resulting in her death. Residents stated they heard two separate gunshots being fired.

CBS News Miami secured surveillance footage that depicted the moment the woman was killed in the driveway of the home. The recording showed the woman driving up in an automobile and taking a seat in the driver’s seat. Subsequently, the individuals in the vehicle exited and walked towards the side of the house. Approximately two minutes later, the man returned to the scene.

From an alternative viewing angle, the man was seen shooting the woman and dragging her body out of the vehicle. A short time after that, he sped away in the automobile. It was at that point that someone inside the home discovered the woman’s body.
