Fatal Miami-Dade shooting death of Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez
Investigators connected two incidents Friday, leading to the identification of the two fatalities. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez, age 29, and Liev Canals, age 48, were killed in a shooting event near Sweetwater and a subsequent crash near Tamiami.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported receiving information about a shooting incident outside a residence located at 1075 NW 127th Place. Inside that home’s driveway, they discovered a woman, who was later confirmed to be Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez, deceased from a gunshot wound.
Shortly after this discovery, Sweetwater Police were dispatched to an area involving Southwest 107th Avenue and 3rd Street concerning a collision. Responding officers found a man seated in the driver’s seat of a black sport utility vehicle. Law Enforcement stated he had sustained what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man, identified as Liev Canals, was transported to a nearby medical facility but did not survive his injuries.
As detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division started their probe, it was determined that Rodriguez and Canals were romantically involved, specifically boyfriend and girlfriend.
Witnesses contacted by CBS News Miami reported seeing a man approach the home and shoot the woman, resulting in her death. These accounts mentioned hearing two gunshots being fired.
CBS News Miami secured surveillance footage showing the moment the woman was killed outside the house. The video depicted her pulling up in a car and entering it. Subsequently, passengers exited the vehicle and walked towards the side of the residence. Two minutes later, the man returns to the scene.
From a different viewing angle, the man was seen shooting the woman as she remained in her vehicle. After dragging her out of the car, he sped away in the same vehicle. It’s reported that someone inside the residence discovered the body shortly after this time.
