Grant Burkett, who was 61 years old, passed away in South Bend.
His death resulted from injuries sustained in a fatal motorcycle accident.
The South Bend law enforcement agency issued a statement on July 19th, confirming that Grant Burkett, a resident of South Bend, died as a direct result of injuries he received in a motorcycle mishap.
According to reports received at approximately 4:45 a.m. on July 19th, police were dispatched to the intersection of Michigan Street and Ireland Road following a notification about a motorcycle collision involving a severely injured person.
Upon their arrival, the officers found Mr. Burkett suffering from critical injuries. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services.
Further details from the initial inquiry indicate that Mr. Burkett was traveling westbound on the St. Joseph Valley Parkway, a major thoroughfare also known as U.S. 20 Bypass, when he attempted to take the northbound exit onto Michigan Street.
Evidence gathered suggests that the motorcycle was unable to properly navigate the curve and left the roadway before crashing onto Michigan Street.
No other motor vehicles were involved in this incident, as stated in the official report.
Mr. Burkett’s family has been informed about the tragic outcome.
