Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that a severe motor vehicle incident in Newberry County on Saturday resulted in the death of a person identified as Marisela Gaither. The 48-year-old resident of Winnsboro, who was the only individual in the involved automobile, did not survive the collision.
Investigators from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, led by Master Trooper Brandon Bolt, stated that the unfortunate event took place approximately at 11 p.m. on Saturday along St. Philip’s Church Road, situated close to S.C. Highway 219. According to their report, a 2022 Honda sedan that was moving eastward from the roadway veered off to the right, collided with a mailbox, and subsequently crashed into a wooden post, an embankment, and a tree on the opposite side.
The victim, Marisela Gaither, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. The local coroner, Laura Kneece, has requested an autopsy to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death, and this examination is planned to be conducted within the current week. The ongoing probe into this incident is being handled jointly by the Newberry County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
