Fatal Deschutes County waterfall accident death of Amanda Lloyd
Investigators from Deschutes County law enforcement confirmed the identities of two individuals who perished in a fatal incident involving a waterfall, as search efforts for the missing person continued into Tuesday. The victims were identified as Amanda, aged 40 from Rockwall, Texas, and Lindsay Bashan, who was 33 and from Parkland, Florida. Bashan had recently celebrated her 33rd birthday earlier that week.
The accident transpired on Saturday afternoon when a group of people was unexpectedly carried over Dillon Falls along the Deschutes River, situated approximately ten miles outside Bend. Officials characterized the river segment as hazardous, with notable drops of about 15 feet, turbulent rapids, and obstacles such as rocks, logs, and other debris that compounded the danger.
According to the sheriff’s office, the six individuals involved were secured together in inner tubes. Three of them managed to survive by leaping from their tubes and reaching the safety of the riverbank, while the remaining three were pulled under by the swift currents. Tragically, one person succumbed to their injuries at the location, and the second body was located on Monday.
As of Tuesday, teams were still combing the area for the one missing individual. Authorities utilized a specialized diver operating from an aircraft to survey the surroundings, and another plane provided assistance through advanced search equipment. Additionally, the same canine unit that aided in uncovering the second body was present at the scene, as reported by local media.
