Caleb Schuette dies in fatal Huron car crash
Fatal Huron car crash death of Caleb Schuette
The South Dakota Highway Patrol announced the identity of the man killed Monday morning in a two-car collision on the city’s northern edge. According to the agency’s report, Caleb Schuette, a 31-year-old resident of Miller, was operating his 2001 Buick LeSabre along West Park Avenue heading towards the U.S. Highway 14 junction around 8:00 a.m. Patrol reports indicate Schuette did not come to a complete stop at the intersection’s traffic signal, leading to a collision with the path of a Kenworth Construction T-800 pickup truck driven by Jeremy Getscher, a 34-year-old from Wolsey. At the time of the crash, Getscher was proceeding eastbound. Following the impact, Schuette’s vehicle and he ended up in a ditch located northwest of the intersection, while Getscher’s Kenworth remained upright along Highway 14, obstructing the roadway. As a result of the crash and ongoing traffic investigation, U.S. Highway 14 remained closed for roughly five hours. Both drivers involved in the accident were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident, with Getscher sustaining no injuries.
