According to details released by the Pennsylvania State Police, a fatality was reported on Wednesday when a collision occurred on Route 22 in Lebanon County. The incident transpired at the specific junction where Allentown Boulevard/Route 22 meets Coon Creek Road, East Hanover Township, at precisely 4:32 p.m.
State troopers reported that the first vehicle involved was a 67-year-old male operating a 2010 Honda Fit. According to the police account, this individual had stopped completely at the designated stop sign located on Coon Creek Road. After ensuring there was no approaching traffic, he proceeded to make a turn onto the Route 22 highway.
The second vehicle, a 2009 SAAB 93B, was traveling along the main road when it collided with the Honda Fit. The driver of the SAAB, identified as 35-year-old Cory Rhoad from Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, was declared deceased at the accident site by officials from the Lebanon County coroner’s office.
State police further indicated that the driver of the Honda Fit, who suffered what were described as potentially minor injuries, was taken to the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for medical evaluation.
As a result of the crash, authorities closed a section of Route 22, which remained shut down for approximately five hours before it was reopened to the public.
