Fatal Stonington car crash death of Shawn Twomey
Law enforcement officials have confirmed the death of Shawn Twomey, a 52-year-old man from New Haven, following a serious collision involving his motorcycle and a large truck on a major highway.
According to reports issued by state police, Mr. Twomey, identified as operating a Suzuki GSX-R1000, lost control and crashed into the rear of a semi-trailer truck on the southbound section of I-95 near the 91st exit in Stonington on Wednesday.
Investigators state that the impact resulted in Mr. Twomey being separated from his motorcycle, after which he was found unconscious and later pronounced deceased at the accident site.
The driver of the commercial truck involved in the incident was not reported to be injured.
This accident led to significant traffic disruption, with I-95 southbound remaining closed for several hours. As of late evening on Wednesday, transportation authorities noted the closure persisted despite no updates to the official incident report.
