A Graves County man has died following a early morning vehicle collision. The crash, which happened on KY 408 West, resulted in one fatality and one serious injury.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1st. Initial reports from the Graves County Sheriff’s Office indicated a single-vehicle accident in the 2000 block of KY 408 West. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a minivan had left the roadway, collided with a tree, and subsequently ignited.
The identified operator was Sherrod Shelton, a 30-year-old resident. Law enforcement reports indicate he was found unconscious on the roadway after sustaining critical injuries. He was airlifted by Mayfield Graves County EMS to Lourdes, with further medical care provided at an out-of-state hospital.
The eight passenger, Raye A. Jones, was secured within the vehicle until rescue units arrived. Despite the quick response, the sheriff’s office confirmed that Jones, who was 22 years old, succumbed to her injuries at the crash scene.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office has released preliminary findings, suggesting a domestic disturbance took place inside the vehicle prior to the collision. As of now, the official cause of the incident remains under investigation by authorities.
