Fatal Fairfax County car crash death of Suzanne K. Colbert

Tuesday brought the identification of a 60-year-old woman from Arlington. Virginia State Police confirmed that she was the individual who succumbed to injuries sustained during a multi-vehicle collision on Monday afternoon, just before 3:08 p.m., along the northbound stretch of I-495 near Braddock Road in Fairfax County.

Law enforcement reports indicate the initial incident involved a Toyota Tacoma, a Scion XB, a Honda Civic, a Ford F-150, and a Nissan Rogue. According to the police, the investigation suggests the Toyota Tacoma was the first vehicle involved when it apparently failed to avoid hitting the motionless Scion XB, which was halted in the right-hand lane of the Express Lanes.

The crash transpired shortly before reaching the safety barriers, where bollards are meant to separate the express lanes from the main travel lanes. Police noted that traffic flow was normal at the time of the accident.

Following the impact, the Tacoma overturned several times. This sequence of events triggered a domino effect, leading to additional collisions involving the Civic, the F-150, and the Rogue.

Suzanne K. Colbert, who was operating the Scion XB at the time, was transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately later passed away due to her injuries.

Concurrently, occupants from the Tacoma and the F-150, alongside the driver and a passenger from the Civic, were also airlifted to regional medical facilities. Fortunately, these individuals sustained injuries that were not considered immediately life-threatening.
