Fatal Beacon shooting death of Casey Cuddy

Law enforcement officials have levied charges of second-degree murder against Edison Irizarry, a 52-year-old retired Beacon police officer. The charges stem from an alleged shooting incident where Irizarry is accused of killing his 58-year-old roommate, Casey Cuddy, who also resides in Beacon.

The tragic event transpired on the evening of July 21st. Police units from Beacon arrived at a residence on Rondout Avenue following a 911 emergency call placed at approximately 9 p.m. According to the New York State Police investigation, Irizarry initiated the call, providing information to dispatchers that he had discharged a firearm at his roommate.

Emergency responders discovered the body of Casey Cuddy at the scene, with signs of a gunshot wound. Irizarry was taken into custody and currently faces multiple charges in addition to second-degree murder. These include second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. He appeared in Beacon City Court for an arraignment and was incarcerated at the Dutchess County jail.

Preliminary proceedings in the case are scheduled for Friday, July 25th, at 10 a.m. The ongoing investigation continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
