Law enforcement officials have announced the identities of two citizens from Madelia who lost their lives in a collision involving two vehicles that occurred on Tuesday afternoon along Highway 15, located south of Searles.

State Patrol records indicate that Charles Keith Mikkelson, aged 83, was occupying the passenger seat of the southbound 2015 Dodge Caravan at the time of the accident. His wife, Ladonna Mae Mikkelson, aged 75, was behind the wheel. The accident happened at 1:47 p.m. with the van colliding into a southbound 2021 Nissan Altima.

The driver of the Altima has been identified as Alyssa Dawn Odens, who is 18 years old and from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The patrol reported that Ms. Odens and her two teenage passengers suffered only minor injuries that were not serious.

According to information from the State Patrol, the crash took place in an area currently undergoing road construction activities. It was further noted that Ladonna Mikkelson had brought the vehicle to a complete stop before the collision occurred.
