The Dane County Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity of a young woman from Minnesota who lost her life in a high-speed accident on Wisconsin’s I-90. The eighteen-year-old, identified as Hallie J. Helgeson, was pronounced deceased at the location on Sunday.

Further examination results suggest Ms. Helgeson succumbed to the severe trauma she sustained in the collision.

Additional tests are currently being performed.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, emergency responders were dispatched shortly after midnight to the scene of a potential head-on collision. The situation involved injuries, vehicle entrapment, and a subsequent fire.

Preliminary findings indicate an SUV, which was allegedly being driven against the flow of traffic, collided head-on with another vehicle. Tragically, the occupants of the struck SUV were consumed by the flames.

The driver of the compact SUV involved in the primary incident suffered injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a medical facility. The passenger of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV’s driver was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

State Patrol officials conducted a crash reconstruction. During this process, an additional automotive incident occurred on the southbound lanes of I-90. A sedan collided with a police squad car that was parked on the emergency shoulder with emergency lights activated.

Both individuals inside the sedan received medical treatment for their injuries. Law enforcement took both drivers into custody on OWI charges as part of their ongoing investigation.
