Police have released further information regarding a Thursday shooting in Sunset Park, located at 550 N Taylor Street in ROCKY MOUNT.

Emergency dispatchers were alerted to the park area around 5:30 p.m. Following reports of gunfire, responding officers discovered 58-year-old Jaime De La Fuente inside a parked vehicle. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and, despite medical intervention, later succumbed to his injuries.

The individual believed responsible, Calvin Conyers, managed to elude law enforcement initially and sought refuge at Chico’s Mexican Restaurant.

The 47-year-old suspect is currently receiving intensive medical treatment at a hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.

Prosecutors have indicated charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and two counts of second-degree kidnapping against Conyers.

Officials report identifying another individual connected to the events who suffered minor injuries. That person was assessed by emergency medical services and released without further hospitalization.
