Fatal Manhattan car crash death of Kevin Cruickshank
Cruickshank, a 55-year-old cyclist, was killed while riding his bike in Manhattan on Saturday. He was crossing Chinatown when the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu struck and killed him and a 63-year-old woman, identified as May Kwok of Brooklyn, according to police.
Witnesses reported seeing the car race off a bridge at high speed, losing control, and crashing into both victims, as well as an NYPD vehicle that was pushed into a nearby jewelry store.
Police reported the driver and a passenger attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended approximately one block away.
Cruickshank’s family shared that the avid cyclist died “while doing something he loved.” They described him as a regular presence in the neighborhood, known for his warm spirit and community involvement. “It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that dear friend, neighbor, loving son and husband Kevin Cruickshank has been killed,” the family stated through a representative.
The driver and passenger were taken into custody after the crash. Police investigations revealed that the incident was initially reported as a car crash, but officers later discovered that the driver was also involved in a shooting earlier that day. The details of that shooting incident remain under investigation.
