Fatal Vergennes Township plane crash death of Kevin Lawrence and Paul Schalk
The two individuals who passed away in the plane mishap near the Lowell City Airport have been identified as Kevin Lawrence and Paul Schalk.
Lawrence, who was 62 years old, resided in Presque Isle, while Schalk, aged 68, originated from Rogers City.
Their fatal journey commenced from Alpena, following a flight path that traversed Kent County.
Ultimately, their aircraft crashed in Vergennes Township, impacting a building at a Whistle Stop Self Storage facility.
A surveillance camera at a business close to the storage site recorded the final moments of the flight.
The blaze resulting from the wreckage required the combined efforts of fifteen fire departments to extinguish.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office has extended its condolences to the families of the deceased.
Currently, the sheriff’s office is collaborating with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to ascertain the reason for the crash.
