Fatal Gates shooting death of Markis Ortiz-Harris

Gates police have officially identified the Amazon employee who was fatally shot outside a fulfillment center in Gates. The incident occurred on July 24th.

Ortiz-Harris, who was 24 years old and resided in Rochester, was located inside his car in the parking area near the facility situated at 2600 Manitou Road at approximately 5:45 p.m. According to statements from Gates Police Captain Matthew Pascarella, at that moment, the individual was waiting for his work shift to begin, as he was employed at the center.

Pascarella emphasized that there is currently no information suggesting the person who fired the weapon was employed by Amazon. Following the incident, the shooter quickly departed from the scene before law enforcement personnel arrived on the premises.

Investigators have characterized the homicide as a deliberate attack and a one-time occurrence. Gates police are actively pursuing leads and continuing their investigation into this fatal shooting.
