Fatal Newberry County car crash death of Pedro Gutierrez

Officials identified two individuals killed in Monday night’s serious interstate collision. According to the Newberry County Coroner’s office, Pedro Gutierrez, who was 21 years old and resided in Gaston, and Michael O’Neill, a 75-year-old from Charlotte, were the victims of the incident. Further examination via autopsy will occur soon.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol detailed the wreck took place on I-26 close to mile marker 66 around 11 p.m. Reports state a 2021 Chevrolet van traveling east collided with the rear of a 2006 Ford van. This initial impact caused the Ford van to lose control and subsequently strike the side of a 2021 Nissan sedan. The individual operating the Ford vehicle and a passenger situated in the front seat of the Chevrolet van were transported to the hospital, where they later passed away. It is noted that a third person, driving the Nissan, did not sustain injuries and was also sent to the hospital for evaluation.
