Fatal Mercer County, Illinois car crash death of Michael Millizer

Deputies from the Mercer County law enforcement agency were dispatched to a fatal highway incident on U.S. Route 67 near the town of Preemption on Wednesday.

Eyewitness accounts shared with the responding officers described how a vehicle moving southward had crossed the median and collided head-on with a car traveling north.

Both individuals operating the vehicles were confirmed deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The Mercer County official serving as coroner, identified as Greg Larson, made public the identities of the two deceased drivers: Robert Haskins Jr., a 70-year-old from Matherville, and Michael Millizer, who was 63 and from East Moline.

Preliminary inquiries into the cause of the accident are still being conducted by the county authorities.
