Emergency medical services were dispatched to the motorsports park located on Ferrers Road in Eastern Creek, a suburb in Sydney’s west, just after 8:00 PM on Saturday evening. The initial report indicated that a vehicle had crashed during an official race competition. Paramedics attended to the driver at the scene, but the 53-year-old individual later passed away there.

According to 9 NEWS, Darren Barlow was identified as the driver who crashed while competing in a Stohr WF1 vehicle. Ric Shaw, who manages the RX8 Cup category, mentioned to the news outlet that he stood up at the race’s conclusion to speak with Darren Barlow. Unfortunately, Mr. Shaw stated he could not see or speak with Mr. Barlow again. His voice became emotional during the recounting.
Prior to his passing, Darren Barlow served as the chairperson of the Motorsport Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) state council. He held this position within Motorsport Australia for the terms spanning from 2023 through to 2025. Darren Barlow won two victories at the same motorsports park in 2019. In a statement to Motorsport Australia during that time, Mr. Barlow expressed his enjoyment of competing. He shared, “From a competitor’s point of view, I really enjoy racing in the championships too because of the quality of the entrants competing and I suppose this round I was lucky enough to win after some good battles with Alex Kenny.”
Motorsport Australia stated that they had been informed about the fatal accident that occurred during a state championship event on Saturday night. In a statement released, Motorsport Australia expressed their condolences to Darren Barlow’s family and friends, as well as their sympathies towards the officials and emergency responders present at the scene. “Motorsport Australia’s Critical Incident Plan is in action, and staff are working with the NSW Police and the venue following this incident.”
