Lorain police officers were ambushed while parked in a secluded area, an incident reported by local law enforcement on Thursday. Officer Phillip C. Wagner, aged 35, sustained critical injuries during the attack, which occurred in the afternoon of Wednesday. He was airlifted to a medical center, where he later passed away, surrounded by his family members at a Cleveland hospital.

The wounded officers received medical attention following the sniper-like attack that targeted Wagner and his partner. A third officer arrived at the scene to provide assistance.

Preliminary investigations indicate Michael Joseph Parker, a 28-year-old local resident of Lorain, was the sole attacker. Law enforcement officials confirmed Parker was found deceased following the exchange of fire that led to the shooting incident. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation by the police department.

According to the police statement, Officer Wagner joined the Lorain force in early 2022. Before his service with the current department, he had experience with the U.S. Marine Corps and the Sheffield Village Police Department. Colleagues described Wagner as a highly regarded and compassionate officer, known for his commitment, professionalism, and the positive impact he had within the community.
