A male individual was struck by a bullet shortly after 12:00 am on Saturday within the East Phillips area. According to law enforcement, the 27-year-old Michael Alfred Johnson had a conversation with another person that deteriorated into a physical confrontation involving firearms.
Responding officers located Johnson close to the intersection of 24th Street East and 18th Avenue South. He suffered at least one serious wound from being shot. Medical professionals were unable to save his life, and he passed away at the hospital where he was taken.
Minneapolis police are continuing their search for the person they believe fired the gun in this incident.
Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara expressed condolences, stating, “Gun violence has claimed another life, devastated another family, and further traumatized a community.” O’Hara emphasized the need for community cooperation, urging, “Anyone with information about this tragedy is urged to come forward as we work to understand what happened and identify ways to prevent further violence.”
