Al-Mukhtar Abdullah Muhammad Sidiya dies in fatal Milwaukee car crash
Fatal Brady Street car crash death of Al-Mukhtar Abdullah Muhammad Sidiya
Al-Mukhtar Abdullah Muhammad Sidiya, aged 28, was killed in a car crash in Milwaukee caused by a driver fleeing police.
Sidiya, originally from Mauritania, was employed as a rideshare driver at the time of the fatal accident.
The driver who was fleeing from police, aged 22, has been arrested. Sidiya’s passenger received injuries that were not life-threatening.
The incident began when police attempted to pull over a reckless driver on West Center Street. This led to a pursuit where the driver collided with another vehicle on Humboldt Avenue and Brady Street before striking Sidiya’s car. Sidiya, who was driving a rideshare vehicle, died as a result.
The 22-year-old driver involved in the fleeing vehicle sustained minor injuries and has been arrested by the police.
Al-Mukhtar Abdullah Muhammad Sidiya, who had arrived in the United States from Mauritania in 2023 seeking better opportunities, passed away on Brady Street on July 29th late evening while working as a rideshare driver. Police reports indicate that a reckless driver, attempting to evade law enforcement, crashed into his car at the intersection of East Brady Street and North Humboldt Avenue.
A 27-year-old passenger in Sidiya’s vehicle was transported to a local hospital where medical staff confirmed the injuries were not life-threatening.
Ibrahim Minih, Sidiya’s uncle residing in Chicago, stated that Sidiya had only one immediate family member in the United States but left behind numerous siblings and parents in Mauritania. Describing his nephew as “very humble,” Minih noted that Sidiya was known for consistently helping others. A memorial service was held on July 31st at the Islamic Society of Milwaukee.
Minih shared, “He tried to do his best. He’s a very hard worker, striving for a better life, much like everyone in a land of opportunities.” He added that Sidiya formed friendships in Milwaukee and was “always around to help.” Minih expressed his hope for community action to reduce violence and lessen the reliance on police pursuits. “I wish my nephew will be the last one,” Minih reflected sadly. “It’s a hard lesson. I wish the community stand by and pay attention to those criminal people and mainly the police not to chase the criminal, especially in neighborhoods or during busy times.”
The arrangements include transporting Sidiya’s body back to Africa for burial.
