Fatal Monterey County plane crash death of Steve Eugene Clatterbuck, James Vincent, and Jamie Lee Tabscott

Authorities have confirmed the deaths of three individuals following the crash of a small aircraft off the coast of Monterey County late on Saturday, July 26.

The twin-engine Beechcraft aircraft went down in the Pacific Ocean approximately 200 to 300 yards from the shoreline near Point Pinos, close to Pacific Grove. The incident was reported to the U.S. Coast Guard just before 11 p.m.

A large-scale overnight search operation was launched immediately. At around 3 a.m., the first victim was found unresponsive at the site of the crash. Shortly before 6 a.m., a Cal Fire drone located the plane’s fuselage. By 6:30 a.m., divers recovered a second body, and at 9:10 a.m., the third and final victim was recovered from the wreckage.

On Monday, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as 60-year-old Steve Eugene Clatterbuck of Salinas, 36-year-old James Vincent of Monterey, and 44-year-old Jamie Lee Tabscott, also of Monterey.

The families of the victims have expressed appreciation for the support they’ve received from the community and have asked for privacy as they grieve this tragic loss.
