Azeem Holmes dies in fatal Fargo shooting
Fatal Fargo shooting death of Azeem Holmes, 19
Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski stated Monday that the recent fatal shootings, occurring in separate locations within the city, are “part of an ongoing dispute… that clearly intensified.”
On Monday, authorities officially named the individual they suspect was involved in the initial incident, which happened just before 2 a.m. on Sunday. The shooting occurred outside the District 64 club on Broadway near NP Avenue, resulting in one fatality and two others injured. Police arrived swiftly at the scene to provide medical assistance. However, the site was complicated by a large gathering of onlookers who became increasingly difficult to manage.
According to a statement from law enforcement, “The crowd’s size necessitated requesting assistance from neighboring agencies to maintain order and public safety.” This led to the involvement of the Moorhead Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office from Minnesota.
Initially pronounced dead at the scene, a second individual remained in critical condition on Monday, while the third victim suffered injuries that do not currently threaten their life.
That same day, police officially identified the deceased as Azeem Holmes, a 19-year-old from Fargo.
The suspect has been identified as Tyrque Patrick Jones, who is 22 years old and also from Fargo. Court documents from North Dakota indicate prior convictions for resisting law enforcement, theft, drug possession charges, and making terroristic threats.
Individuals seeking information regarding Mr. Jones’ location can report it to the Red River Regional Dispatch Center by calling 701-451-7660. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be sent by texting “FARGOPD” along with the information to 847411.
