Fatal Atlanta car crash involving two pedestrians.
Southbound traffic on Interstate 85 was halted for several hours late Thursday night following a fatal collision near the Buford Connector overpass. The Georgia Department of Transportation confirmed the shutdown as law enforcement investigated the incident.
According to investigators, a 51-year-old Glenn E. Young and a 51-year-old David C. Haynes, both reportedly in their respective ages, were crossing the southbound lanes of the highway when they were struck by an oncoming vehicle. Tragically, one pedestrian was hit by a second vehicle after the initial impact. Both victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The drivers involved remained at the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation and have expressed cooperation with authorities. Further examination of the circumstances surrounding the pedestrian’s presence on the interstate is part of the current probe.
