Fatal downtown Los Angeles multiple shooting incident involving Gregory Derisso
Police reports indicate two fatalities and six injuries following a multiple shooting incident in the downtown area of Los Angeles, which authorities state occurred subsequent to several social gatherings in the central business district late on Sunday night.
The initial incident transpired around 1 a.m. on Monday in the vicinity of 14th Place and Paloma Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, numerous celebrations reportedly occurred in that area during the early morning hours.
Law enforcement officers were conducting routine patrols in the area at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday when they observed individuals entering what they suspected was an unpermitted gathering.
“A social event was observed, yet the nature of the party remains unclear. The officers took action to terminate the unauthorized gathering by securing the premises,” stated LAPD Captain Letisia Ruiz.
It is reported that over fifty individuals were present at this prohibited assembly. Following the dispersal of the crowd, one individual was apprehended for allegedly carrying a firearm without authorization.
Several hours later, police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered eight individuals who were shot. Details regarding the precise sequence of events remain limited.
Tragically, one individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Another person, identified as a 52-year-old female, was transported to a medical institution but subsequently passed away. Six others sustained injuries during the violence.

Gregory Derisso is confirmed as one of the victims. His parent, Judner Derisso, identified his son, who was 29 years old, as one of the deceased.
Derisso shared that his son had three young children and was planning to have a family meal, but he never arrived. Upon learning of the incident, the father discovered his son was among the fatalities.
He characterized his son as a decent father, a person of two boys and one daughter. “Sometimes you cannot prevent certain individuals from associating with questionable people. Even when you recognize the potential danger, you advise them to avoid such situations, but he seemed determined to disregard the warning,” Derisso expressed profound sorrow.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement via the X platform, stating, “This utterly pointless violence and the loss of lives are deeply disturbing, and those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.”
She further emphasized, “Violence will not be accepted in our community. My sympathies are with the victims and their families.”
At this time, investigators have not established a motive for the killings. It is also uncertain whether the earlier party incident documented by authorities is connected to the subsequent multiple shooting.
No individuals have been formally accused, and no description of a suspect is currently available.
