San Diego law enforcement have confirmed the identity of the person killed in Monday evening’s fatal shooting. The deceased is identified as 33-year-old Justin Rodriguez, who resides in Freer.
Chief Ben Gomez reported that officers arrived at St. Mary’s Apartments, located in the 200 block of Mier Street, shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday. Upon their arrival, they discovered Rodriguez with a gunshot injury to his right shoulder area.
Rodriguez did not survive the injuries and passed away at the scene.
According to Chief Gomez, Rodriguez was present at his girlfriend’s apartment when her friends arrived. Their purpose was to confront Rodriguez regarding accusations that he had assaulted his girlfriend. The situation escalated during the confrontation, leading to Rodriguez being shot. Chief Gomez mentioned that a 40-caliber handgun was found at a different residence.
The individual who fired the weapon left the location. The case is currently being investigated with the involvement of the Texas Rangers.
