Investigators from the local police department arrived at the intersection of 57th Avenue and Indian School Road shortly after daybreak. They discovered a woman, later confirmed to be 44-year-old Phyliss Wauneka, who was reported as having no response.
Emergency medical teams arrived and pronounced Phyliss deceased at the scene. Another individual, identified as 37-year-old Antonio Wauneka, was also in the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but unfortunately did not survive.
Officials have released the identity of the second person involved, listing him as Antonio Wauneka, aged 37. They noted that the driver of the other car remained at the location and was assessed by law enforcement without evidence of impairment.
According to the initial findings, it is believed that Phyliss Wauneka was crossing Indian School Road from the north side on 57th Avenue, proceeding on a stop, when she was hit by the other vehicle. Initial reports indicate that speed may have played a role in this unfortunate event.
