Law enforcement officials announced the identification of a man who lost his life during a shooting incident last weekend in the Gaslamp Quarter region. According to reports released on Wednesday, Antwan Bluthenthal, a 46-year-old individual, was found gravely injured after a shooting occurred inside a structure. The San Diego Police Department provided details about the tragic event.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday after being alerted to gunfire. They discovered Antwan Bluthenthal in a third-floor corridor of a building located at 701 Sixth Avenue, sustaining fatal injuries. Lieutenant Lou Maggi from the San Diego Police Department confirmed that the victim did not survive the incident and passed away at the location where he was found.
Upon their arrival, officers encountered several bystanders on the sidewalk who were holding a 37-year-old man named Bryan Tyner. The individuals identified Tyner as the person who allegedly fired the weapon, and police recovered a handgun from him. Tyner was subsequently arrested on charges related to homicide and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation revealed that both Tyner and Antwan Bluthenthal were present at the same rooftop bar establishment on the night of the incident. Specifically, investigators determined that although the shooting took place on the third floor, both the suspect and the victim had visited the Cielo Rooftop Lounge, which is situated on the fifth floor and accessible via an elevator on the third floor. At the time of the shooting, this lounge was reportedly closed, and another business in the area, a comedy club on the third floor, was also shut down.
Following the incident, the Cielo Rooftop Lounge issued a public statement through its Instagram account, expressing sympathy to those impacted by the violence. The business emphasized its commitment to cooperation with law enforcement and ensuring public safety, while noting that the shooting did not occur within their venue despite its proximity to the affected location.
